George Hartman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred l Hartman of Lawrenceville Illinois received notice of his appointment as a cadet to Westpoint and was to report for duty on July 1st, 1927.  George was then enrolled at the Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington Missouri, where he had made an enviable record as a student.  He was recommended for the Westpoint appointment by Congressman Arnold and was given a special examination at Jefferson Barracks Missouri coming through with high honors.  This is the second Lawrenceville boy to receive the coveted Westport scholarship, the first one being Major Charles Cunningham now stationed at State Line Pennsylvania.
