Tombstone Cleaning Morning at Moffett Cemetery Saturday June 10, 2023 7:00-8:30am

Tomorrow Saturday June 10, the cemetery restoration volunteers will be at Moffett Cemetery very early in the morning ---7:00 am --!! to teach others how to clean tombstones. Its not a class per se; it’s just instructions by doing. We have all the tools and equipment you will need. Just wear old clothes, bring water to drink, and something to sit upon if you don’t like sitting on the grass. You may want a hat and gloves and insect repellant. WE will only work about 1 ½ hr. and quit before it gets too hot.

This is really easy. If you can clean your tub/shower, you can clean a tombstone. We have cleaned all the stones at Ridgley, Wright/Gaddy, and Bethel last season (Bethel we started during Covid) or about 497 stones but who’s counting….and this season we are working on Bell and Moffett Cemeteries or about 522 tombstones. We can use all the help we can get. The more hands we have, the faster the work goes.

So, we hope to see you tomorrow. Moffett cemetery is located west of St. Francisville and 16.8 Miles (about 34 minutes) from Lawrenceville, Illinois.

Directions: From Lawrenceville, travel south on Illinois Route 1 approximately 9.7 Miles to St. Francisville turn off, turn right onto county road 150 north (Sand Barrens Road). Continue to travel approximately 6.6 miles to county road 510 east, turn left (south) onto county road 510 east (Union Chapel Road according to google maps), travel approximately .5 miles cemetery is on the left.

PS Reminder to the Coffee drinkers: There are no bathroom facilities…just saying.
