There's No Crying in Baseball. . .

In the summer of 1940, the Lawrenceville Merchants softball team won the Wabash Valley Girls Softball tournament.  The nonprofessionals emerged victorious in the two-state competition over some more experienced and semi-pro teams including two from Terre Haute, Indiana.

The champions from left are Kneeling- Wanda Baker, Bett Moore, Norma Ervin, Iwana Wilson, Evelyn Hodges, Dorothy Toliver, Mildred Caudell

Standing: Coach “Red” Phillips, Maxine Palmer, Rayburn Scaggs, Wanda Ann Ray, Merna Schmiedeskamp, Maxine McDonald, Marge Bowman, Hope Jackman and Coach Connie Gariepy.
