Lathrop’s Feed store, 421 E Olive Street Bridgeport, was one of Bridgeport’s oldest businesses. In the early oil field days, the business was owned by Fremont Harris.  He also owned several teams of horses and rented them with drivers to the oil companies for use in the oil fields.  LB Flanders then bought the feed store and later sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lathrop in 1953.  They made various improvements to the business and continued to operate it until Mr. Lathrop died in 1879.

His grandsons, Mickey and Jay Murphy inherited it with Jay selling his share to Mick, who along with his mother, continued to operate the business.

On September 25th, 1989, the feed store was destroyed by fire.  The Bridgeport fire department aided by five other fire departments fought a losing battle and a young man’s business was lost.

Mick continued to sell feed out of a semi until a new 40’ x 80’ building was constructed in the spring of 1990.
