Laced and Layered : The History of Lingerie 1850–1950
Presented by the Lawrence County Historical Society
Lawrenceville, Illinois — The Lawrence County Historical Society invites the public to slip into something historically comfortable with “Layered and Laced: The History of Lingerie 1850–1950.” This lively program will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the History Center on the Square in Lawrenceville.
This event marks the third installment in the Society’s well‑loved Ladies’ Fashions series, showcasing treasures from the organization’s own collections. The Presenters will guide attendees through a century of undergarments that shaped silhouettes, sparked trends, and occasionally challenged the laws of physics. From the tightly laced corsets of the Victorian era to the more liberated styles of the 20th century, guests will discover how lingerie influenced not only fashion but the daily lives of the women who wore it.
Expect a blend of history, humor, and a few delightful surprises—because nothing reveals the past quite like the garments people hoped no one would ever see.
Cost: $10
Seating is limited.
