WOMEN IN ILLINOIS HISTORY TO BE TOPIC

AT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING


Tom Emery, a writer and lecturer from Carlinville, Illinois, will be the featured speaker at the meeting of the Lawrence County Historical Society on Monday, October 23, 7:00 p.m., at the History Center in Lawrenceville. Emery's presentation is entitled "Notable Women of Illinois History".


Emery will discuss the lives and accomplishments of some of the most influential women throughout Illinois history, including Jane Addams, Mary Ann Bickerdyke, Mary Todd Lincoln, Frances Willard, and Gwendolyn Brooks.


Emery is the recipient of the fifteen awards from the Illinois State Historical Society for his various works. He is a graduate of Blackburn College and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. His byline has appeared in over 150 newspapers. His most recent work is Abraham Lincoln and the Heritage of Illinois State University, released in 2021.


The program is free and open to the public.
