Household Goods with Values 1836

William Lower of Lawrenceville was married to Jane Spencer, daughter of Wm Spencer. The couple were living in Lawrenceville when William became sick. Dr. William G. Anderson visited the household on December 10, 1835, and attended William day and night. The doctor also provided sundry medicines including a vial of quinine and a vial of Nitric.  The bill he presented to William’s estate was $7.00; although it had originally been marked $8.50 with a notation that the doctor had ‘provided written instructions for a sick child.’

Despite the care, William died December 12, 1835. No burial place has been located. A probate file was found at the Lawrence County courthouse. Judge WM Lean ordered John Fail, Aaron Wells, and Daniel Travis to appraise the goods, chattels and personal estate.
