The Historical Society was honored to host Ellen Jones, local author from Petersburg, Indiana, as their guest speaker for the July meeting. Although Ellen was raised on her family farm in Edwards County, Illinois, her mother Catherine (Stone) Bunting was from the Bethel Church neighborhood in Lukin Township.

Ms. Jones combines a personal touch with genealogical research and stories from her childhood to write her family legacy books. Thus, her books are realistic fictional stories based partially on real-life ancestral characters.  Her first book “Englishman on the Prairie” tells of her Great-Great-Grandfather’s journey to America and of the life and love he found on the Illinois prairie.  “Prairie Homestead” continues that story. Her books can be purchased on Amazon.
