Corrections and Memories

When photos arrive at the Research Library if they are marked, we try to have the identification verified but that is not always possible.
But thanks to some sharp-eyed readers, we believe we can correct a mistake that we published yesterday. The service station below was believed to have been located near where the Hardee's restaurant in Lawrenceville is now. HOWEVER it has now been correctly identified as Forest Dutton & Ed Wiswall’s station in Petrolia. Thank you Risty P and others for this correction.

John F sent in this memory about the above photo:
“The last picture in the group, the Tydol Station, became the “Clock Café and Bus Stop”. The building expanded from just a three- pump station to having a café. Note the “Clock” on the face of the building. Hence the name “Clock Café”. I remember the gas station portion, the café portion, and a game room with pin ball machines. This was the Greyhound Bus Stop. On down the hill west of the Clock Café and next to the railroad track was the Spot Café Diner. I believe in the late 70s. The Clock Café was torn down after Greyhound stopped their bus stop route with Lawrenceville and subsequently the Chrysler Car dealership acquired the property.”
Thanks John for this memory. Does anyone else have memories of the service stations in the county? Send them to lawrencelore@gmail.com
