In 1908 Lafayette Perkins laid out Arlington Heights Subdivision located on the west side of town bounded by on the north by Church Street, east by Kenwood Avenue, south by Depot Street, and west by Lexington Avenue, He was known as the Home Seeker’s Friend and had an office across from the First National Bank with Mr. Dickirson and Mr. Milligan.
He offered a $1.00 prize to readers who would answer the questions he posed. The answers were published in the newspaper.Â
Why will homes located in Arlington Heights be the most desirable in the city?
It is on two main throughfares entering the city, had wide streets, was well drained, and was a nice distance from the railroad depot.
It is not near any of the lowlands consequently there were no fogs to make the atmosphere impure.
Because it is restricted as to building shacks, tents and houses finished with rough lumber.Â
Because it was located on high land and not near overflow land.
Â
Why will lots in Arlington Heights increase in value faster than any other lots in the city?
The people residing in Arlington Heights will own their own homes thus enhancing the value of all the property.
The city is destined to grow on the west side, and the lots are cheap in price.
The town must build west to be on high land.
Because the lots are being taken by the best class of people.Â
Â
So there you have it Arlington Heights people... You are a better class of people....
