Update on Our Cemetery Projects

The Lawrence County Historical Society has for the past several years undertaken to clean and restore tombstones at many of the county’s cemeteries. The township tax money and any donations made to the township for cemetery purposes are only enough to pay for mowing the cemeteries but not to repair or reset stones.
Because of that, the Society applied for and received a grant several years ago that they used to match donations received for cemetery restoration. Restoration work was done at Denison Cemetery, Bell Cemetery, Moffet Cemetery, Wright-Gaddy Cemetery, Ridgley Cemetery, Otterbein Cemetery and cleaning done at Corrie Cemetery. Unfortunately that grant is now depleted.
Thanks to Heritage Preservations LLC. and a private donor, we were able to restore almost 60 stones in the first eight rows of the old part of White House/Pleasant Hill Cemetery this season. The difference that has made to preserve this historic cemetery is truly amazing.
The weather was perfect Saturday for volunteers to clean more stones at White House. A big Thank you to all who helped! If you would like to donate money to help preserve our older cemeteries or learn the correct way to clean old stones, please contact lawrencelore@gmail.com. Both would be much appreciated.
