Re-introduction of Deer in Lawrence County – 1945

Daily Record January 9, 1945:

“Four deer were turned loose Friday in Lawrence County by the State Dept. Of Conservation,” reported Glen Fiscus. The deer were obtained from the state through the efforts of the Sportsmen’s Club. Two bucks and two does were brought to the county from the State Deer farm near Cairo, IL and released in Lukin Township near Buckhorn School. Illinois is trying to stock deer and other wildlife in rural counties and asks for cooperation from hunters and farm families. Mr. Fiscus reminds all that it is against the law to kill these deer.
