The Research Library and History Center will be closed the week of December 21-27.
The Lawrence County Historical Society received an early Christmas present from two of our favorite English guys, Andrew Hills and Jonathan D Hills, authors of a book titled “Origins of Armour No 2: An Armoured Repeating War Gun: Mark Bowman and William Hughes; Gun Carriage of 1900.”
This book examines a design patented in 1900 by two inventors from Pinkstaff, Lawrence County Illinois, Bowman and Hughes, who designed an armored gun carriage that they hoped would combine firepower with protection.

These two men from Pinkstaff, one who fought with the Confederate army and the other whose father fought with the Union, together applied for a patent for an armored war gun and became a part of the history of this type of armored weapon. It’s an interesting read with lots of illustrations and a perfect gift for the ‘military person” in your life.
The book can be ordered from Amazon for $14.75.
