Summary Of Improvement in Lawrenceville in 1910

The weekly newspaper, the Lawrenceville Republican, reported on the improvements made in the city of Lawrenceville in the year 1910. Among them were:

·         Indian Refinery kept a force of 400 to 500 men busy all summer, building and improving the facility. They were supervised by Engineer T.P. Melvin.

·         The United Brethren Church completed and dedicated their new $9000 church building.

·         The Methodist Episcopal Church enclosed their 30,000 sq. ft. building and began plastering and finishing the interior.

·         Scores of new homes were built from $2000-$6000 with many smaller homes also completed.

·         Two miles of paving were completed in the city giving it three miles of principal streets paved.

·         American Asphalt and Rubber Factory built a plant employing 40-60 men.

·         A second sewer district was installed providing two sections of the city with sewers.

·         Building of the extension on the courthouse was underway. (At the January 1911 meeting, the Board of Supervisors ordered the Locust trees removed from the Court House yard.)
