Until the 17th century garments had no pockets so handbags were used to store and carry personal belongings. Both functional and fashionable handbags come in different styles and materials. This week the curators organized and put on display at the research library some of the society’s collection. If you think that you have a handbag that has relevance in the timeline of handbag history and would like to donate it to us, send a photo to lawrencelore@gmail.com
