Mrs. Irene Black’s lifetime collection of local history and genealogy material was originally located in Bridgeport, IL, but in 2001, she donated the collection to the Lawrence County Historical Society. In 2016, it was relocated to the Research Library in Lawrenceville. Since then, the Historical Society has actively collected additional geographic, historic and biographic materials including family histories and vital records. If you haven’t visited since the newspaper collection room was updated, the school photos, yearbooks and records were moved from the History Center, or the collection of oil industry- related material was organized, you should really stop by 1100 Lexington Ave. Lawrenceville, IL. We hope this dynamic environment will ignite your passion for local history and family research.
