2024: A Busy Year

A group of dedicated volunteers strive every day to preserve and breathe life into the inanimate objects that make up the history that defines our county. This is what we did last year! Won’t you help us in 2025 do even more?


 COMPLETED IN 2024

  • Permanent exhibit space in the back room at the History Center created allowing curators to exhibit artifacts depicting religion, music, sports and business in Lawrence County.

  • Archival work continued

  • Cataloging and scanning of photographs

  • Processing of Textiles including military uniforms and women’s fashions

  • Research continued on area families specifically early people of color

  • Assistance in transportation for digitization of Bridgeport Leader newspapers

  • Acceptance of research work by high school students

  • Organization of Bridgeport history, artifacts and photographs

  • Coordination of signage for City Park History Walk

  • Creation of exhibit of baby shoes for Lawrenceville public library

  • Open House hosted during School Alumni week

  • Toured the Indiana Military Museum

  • Hosted Zane Parrott Havoline/Indian Oil collection

  • Restored Dr’s examination chair

  • Decorated a tree in the Lawrence County Health Dept Festival of Trees

  • Hosted the Lawrence County CEO group

  • Fundraising: Made and sold fresh evergreen swags; sold duplicate vintage yearbooks

  • Coordinated cemetery restorations

  • Presented several interesting and informative monthly programs: Museum studies and work with National Parks, by Brianna Jackson; History of Mullens French Dressing by Penny Shaw, Owls by Goose Pond property manager; Ellen Jones, author of books about life on the Illinois prairie; restoration of exam chair by Maple Hill Restorations; and Bob Pickering author of book about Life on the Oklahoma Plains 1841
