From its opening in the Spring of 1942 through more than three years, many classes of cadets graduated from George Field, the Army Air Force base, on Allison Prairie in Lawrence County Illinois.  This location was selected because of the varied weather conditions prevailing in this section of the country, long clear days interspersed with days and weeks of snow, rain and fog that afforded the variety of flying conditions needed to prepare pilots for combat.  This is the story of that place at that time and that generation that helped win the War.  Spiral bound.
